ABOUT MY PROJECT
The aim of this project is to produce a music software which combines the Scottish music rules and the computing concepts implied into making a humanized monophonic playback. The software uses abc notation, which is converted into a MIDI file. The user can download externally the midi file and play it on different platforms. It is open to a wide audience, not only for musicians and specialists in the Scottish traditional music. Anyone who is interested in trying out how different Scottish instruments could sound, can play with it. There is no boundary in the age or technical experience needed because the software is designed to be easily used. Moreover, the software proposes greater extensibility since the field is unresearched and its design shows that anyone willing to add more features could do it without extreme changes. The whole project is done under the guidance of John H. Williamson, lecturer at University of Glasgow, School of Computing Science.

This website was designed for the evaluation purposes. Anyone taking part of the experiment is asked prior to entering the website to give his consent and anyone can withdraw from the experiment at any point if he feels insecure under any circumstances!

The participants will be shown different Midi samples extracted by the software. They will be both stylesed and plain (played by default instrument- the piano) in order to check how successful is the output after the features of the software being added. The participants will be asked to answer some questions while listening to the samples in order to lessen their effort.
